Florida and New York

Harry Potter World was totally banaynays. If people had dressed up like Hogwarts students and not Florida tourists, it would have been like being in the universe for reals, which is basically my biggest dream and all I want from life. My sister and I spent an entire day prodding toads, casting spells, and drinking butterbeer, and it was, pardon the pun, totally magical. Universal Studios is a tourist trap of awesome proportions, and you're obviously meant to drop a lot of cash there, but if you can suspend the disbelief for long enough, it is the most amazing place on Earth for a lifelong Potter-fan. I managed to control myself enough to only buy a wand, a badge, and a box of Bertie Botts' Every Flavor Beans, all of it overpriced, and all of it I will cherish for the rest of my life. Oh, the perils of capitalist entertainment.

We have safely arrived in New York, too. We have done nothing of note, outside of just chilling in the city, which is a far sight better than chilling in Aarhus, because goddamned New York, maaan. My sister isn't old (or cool) enough to drink, so we're not exactly having a party, but sandwiches in the New York sunshine is a party in itself when shared with the best sister in the world. We're going to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade on Saturday, which I, as a mermaid in soul, look forward to immensely. We're gonna chase the experience with a little Broadway play called Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which is huge for me, because that movie meant a lot to me as a teenager. And of course, my Sunday will be spent with Christopher Owens, who makes tunes that make you wanna live instead of die, and getting to see him in New York of all places warms my petty heart. Commander Ripley, signing out.

An introductory post

Hi, I'm the eponymous mermaid. I'm 24, I study English, and none of this matters, because if you're reading this, you probably already know me. I named the blog after a song by MGMT because I was listening to MGMT when I chose the name and I was lazy and out of ideas. I'll be going to Orlando Florida, New York, Las Vegas Nevada, and San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles California, and I'll be gone for about five weeks. I want an immortal play-by-play of how my I'm-going-to-find-myself-on-this-trip-maaaaaan is going to go down so I have something to look back on when I'm old and gray and probably curmudgeonly and conservative. I'll be leaving on the 15th of June and will probably return home on July 20th if I don't end up marrying a rich record producer while in Los Angeles. Sayonara!
